What I took away from the experience is that no task is too small for absolute attention to detail. That attention is what leads to the perfectly turned down bed, seamless wine service, and a “wow” program for each guest… If a person has the interest, it is clearly possible to do something nice. But is *nice* enough? What is your definition of quality and service? Greatness is a whole other level, and it’s something that isn’t so easy… My relatively short time at The French Laundry made this clearly evident. I discovered that achieving greatness at any organization requires someone almost fanatic at the top.
